History of Latino Art in Chicago

“All history is just a point of view, never complete and always changing as new voices and information contribute to its formation.”

Anonymous

Attempting to write a complete history of anything is an impossible task, the omissions set by lack of information, discrimination and preferences of the author influence the outcome; what is not acceptable is to state that what one person has written is the ultimate history.

When one speaks of Latina Art in Chicago the first thing that comes to mind is those characters that somehow have reached recognition and one tends to ignore all other people and artistic manifestations that have not reached notoriety.

This publication will not attempt to create such history, but rather to contribute to the idea of an ever developing knowledge base and contributing as much as possible to add and clarify facts within reason by gathering information.

A few years ago we tried to create a complete list of Latina and Latino artists by trade and came to the realization that it was not possible; every step we took we found practicing artists that were not known, too many to classify and list.
